Review: The Very Best Stay-Up Mittens
January 14, 2010
One little mummy lost her mittens, and she began to cry…
Sometimes it’s the little things. Like realizing just after you’ve hopped onto the streetcar, babe in arms, that one lonely mitten was left lying on the street. The good news, my friends: my daycare pick up is now 25 percent easier, and there are approximately 75 percent fewer women bad-momming my son’s cold, naked hands.
I’ve finally found the perfect mitten! There’s an exclamation mark here because I’ve got a commitment problem. I need to know every product out there at every price point and read every review, before I can even start considering a purchase. And while my inability to make a quick decision left us bootless in December, the good news is that all the adorable colours and embroidery of Mimitens are still available. (And far fewer lost singles are hanging off tree branches across the city.)

Review: MimiTENS Cold-Weather Proof Mittens
January 9, 2010
You know that space between your little one’s elbow and wrist that always gets cold during the winter? Well, MimiTENS‘ adorable mittens have got it covered — literally.
Made in Canada (and we Canadians know a thing or two about cold weather protection!) from Oeko-Tek bamboo fleece, cotton, Thinsulate and lycra, the mittens have extra long, stretchy cuffs that stretch over a child’s arms to keep them extra warm. They’re also designed with a snug fit so they won’t slip down.
For baby, you’ll find loads of thumb-less styles ($27 – $29) in soft fleece or nylon. The toddler versions ($31) — they have thumbs — come in fun colors and prints. Make sure to also check out the company’s matching hats and scarves. They’re equally cute and cozy!
Added bonus: All MimiTENS products are eco-friendly with a portion of their profits being donated to a number of charities.

Baby- en peuterwantjes die blijven zitten!
January 9, 2010
Eindelijk! Dé oplossing is nu eindelijk verkrijgbaar

Marvellous Mittens
Janurary 4, 2010
There's a very neat fundraiser for the humanitarian organization Right To Play through the company mimiTENS. They created a line of kids mittens – they're really cute – inspired by Right To Play athletes Clara Hughes, Steve Omischl and Simon Whitfield. I agree with Hughes when she says “I wish they made them in my size.” They could be handy in February. Right To Play gets 50 per cent of the proceeds from sales of the mimiTENS Clara and Steve + Simon collection.

Mimitens: des moufles "ecofriendly" !
December 29, 2009

mimiTENS

There are so many little things that you really don't pay attention to when you're shopping for your first baby. Just last night I was standing and looking at the baby swing thinking, "ugh...here's to another 6 months of buying batteries" because the swing we have doesn't plug in. It's a wonderful swing and I have no complaints {aside from no cord} but if I could go back and add a different one to the old registry, I would pick one that comes with a cord!! It's these sort of things that you learn as you go!
So thanks to the creator of mimiTENS, Anna-Maria Mountfort {who is a mom of two by the way}, the search to find the perfect mitts for my toddler and new baby is over. Mark my words, I'll never buy a pair of mitts that aren't mimiTENS ever again! mimiTENS are one of the best pieces of baby/toddler gear I have come across since becoming a mommie. What I love about mimiTENS is that they're a Canadian product {Canadian factories are known for creating superb winter gear...wonder why?!? haha} and they're made with eco-friendly materials like bamboo fleece and organic cotton that are safe for your children and gentle on mama nature.

New & Improved Mimitens Mittens {Review}
November 21, 2009
In my initial review (which can be found here) Mimitens were already the very best mittens for infants and toddlers hands down. Imagine my utter surprise to hear, that these warm fisted favorites of mine were new and improved.
I contacted owner, Anna-Maria, a week ago to let her know that her Canadian made Mimitens were going to be included in our 2009 Holiday Gift Guide. She then informed me she was glad to hear that they had been selected, but that a new review was needed as she had improved upon the original design.
I have to admit, I was a bit concerned they had tweaked something that didn't need to be tweaked. Anna Maria sent two new pairs of mimitens, which arrived a couple days ago for my updated review. The improvement is the cuffs of the mittens. A knit by a sockmaker is now being used which adds to the overall design in a couple key ways.e.

The Gloves Are Off

Waging snowball fights. Climbing monkey bars. Building snowmen. As our children’s first line of defense against chapped, red hands and frozen fingers, mittens take a beating in the winter. No wonder so many go AWOL, trading their hard knock life for lazy afternoons loitering underneath park benches, in Lost and Found boxes and in the corners of playgrounds.
While we can all relate to the plight of these poor, ill-used accessories, something must be done to prevent their mass defection. And that something is MimiTENS.
MimiTENS mittens feature long, stretchy cuffs that reach all the way up to the elbow. This clever design not only ensures that the mittens don’t fall off, but that they won’t fill up with snow or let any cold air in through the coat sleeves – no matter what brand of shenanigans your little renegades decide to go in for.

Creamed color ponies and crisp apple strudel (continue singing in 'Sound of Music' tone) warm wollen mittens that stayed put throughout school. Imagine your child wearing mittens THAT STAY PUT throughout the long, cold winter season!?! Only those in Canada would come up with such a useful idea. MimiTens mittens are designed to fit snuggly around the wrist while stretching upwards toward the elbow for a comfortable/practical feel.
Besides my gourmet Choco kit I ordered awhile back, I've never been so excited about a delivery. It's time to say 'Ba-bye snowy wrists' and 'hello insulated warm bamboo fleece'.
Not only do MimiTens mittens sound fancy, but they are. Developed for babies and toddlers, these special mittens are eco friendly, made in Canada and contribute a percentage of their profits to several local charities. Definitely makes snowball fights more worthy!!

Mittens that stay up — no strings attached!
October 26, 2009
Now here is a concept I wish I would have created… mittens that stay put, really. They’re mittens with long, stretchy cuffs that reach the elbow, making sure that no matter how much your child wriggles, runs, or plays, those mittens won’t budge, and they won’t fill with snow either.
With sizes ranging from baby to 5-year-old, and with loads of different colors and styles, the Mimi TENS mittens are made with waterrepellent nylon, insulated with Thinsulate and lined with Oeko-Tek bamboo fleece for extra warmth and softness.
They’re made in Canada where they are no strangers to snow, so you know you’re in good hands, literally. Click here for retailers. And can you believe I’m thinking about snow already?

We’re delighted to feature mimiTENS products as this week’s Cuddle and judging by how quickly the products sold out, you’re just as enamored as we are.
Meet Anna-Maria, the energetic, committed Mom of two behind mimiTENS. We are not only impressed by her charitably and drive, we’re also inspired by her real advice that every ‘working’ mom needs to hear. She’s a mom with two jobs {well, three technically} and still believes in the power of pixie dust. We’re charmed.

Waving G'Bye to Lost Mittens
January 9, 2009
We’re on our umpteenth snowfall and our third pair of kid mitts. Soon it’ll be spring and the melting snow banks will reveal those lost little mittens – right after we’ve trashed their forlorn mates.
Now we can use that solo one to wave lost mittens goodbye for good. Made with bamboo and organic cotton fabric, earth-friendly and mama-friendly mimiTENS feature long cuffs to help them stay on (why did it take so long for someone to think of this?) and a Thinsulate lining for added warmth.
Made in Canada, we know for certain that creators Anna-Maria Mountfort and Maria Dempster have shared our irritation with missing mittens. They also share our love for incredible embroidery and illustration. Available in two styles – thumbless for 6-18 months ($27.50) and with thumb for 2-3 years ($29) – and featuring a myriad of cute colours and designs (like owls, robots and rainbows), the hardest part will be not losing them to thieving toddlers at the next playdate.
MimiTENS have shown us that lost-mitten misery doesn’t love company – it loves someone who does something about it.

MimiTens mittens are sooooo cute . . .
January 13, 2009
I barely noticed their exceptional functionality. Until someone sent me an op-ed about their amazing stay-on-ability and I took another look. It seems I got so dazzled by these mittens awesome graphic design (records, owls, beatboxes, rainbows), amazing feel and thumblessness (for the little guys) that I didn’t even realize that the long cuff adeptly protects against the case of the lost mitten. And the matching scarf: it has two little pockets- one on each side to store little whatnots that your little tot is toting around. Imported from Canada.

MimiTENS For Your Baby's Cold Mitts
March 21, 2009
Spring may be officially here, but the East Coast is still experiencing some of winter's cold shoulder. And if keeping your wee one's mittens where they belong seems like a lost cause, MimiTENS' extra-long cuffs may be just the cure for your tot's acute case of missingmittenitis.
Designed and made in Canada—where folks know a thing or two about frosty temps—MimiTENS bamboo-and-organic-cotton mitts come in two sizes: baby (6-18 months) and toddler (2-3 years). Adorably embroidered robots, robins, and rainbows not enough of a draw? A portion of sales also goes to the Geneva Centre for Autism.

2 Moms Bring mimiTENS to Our Neighbourhood
January 2009
Marina Dempster and Anna-Maria Mountfort are the Moms behind mimiTENS; a line of Toddler Mitts, Baby Mitts and Scarves. What's so special about mimiTENS, you ask? Well, for starters, they're made right here in Canada from ecofriendly fabrics that are good for Baby and 'Mama' Earth. mimiTENS also have long and stretchy cuffs which means they stay on, despite your Tot's best attempts! Cool designs include embroidered boom boxes, turntables, robots, robins, owls and rainbows. Perhaps the coolest thing about mimiTENS is that proceeds from sales go to support charities like the Geneva Centre for Autism and the Yonge Street Mission.
mimiTENS Founder, Anna-Maria Mountfort, had this to say about the connection between mimiTENS and Our Neighbourhood: "I have been lucky enough to live in West Queen West for five years and see the area and its families grow. mimiTENS is influenced heavily by the progressive and creative people who live in West Queen West. They care about good design and so many businesses are championing eco-friendly products. There are also a lot of kids running around [the neighbourhood] and their parents are always looking for practical and interesting gear."
mimiTENS are available at 4 Toronto locations, including KOL KID at 674 Queen St. West.
